Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Neon Engine Light & Codes, chrysler neon, neon 2

Question
QUESTION: Hi Kevin,
I have a 2001 Chrysler Neon 2.0 Liter (in Germany). The car has 158,000 KM (98,750 Miles) on it. The Engine Warning light went on a few weeks ago. I had it re-set at the shop, since the car was driving fine, and the mechanic said that the error codes showed no serious problem, but it went on again and has stayed on since. Now, occasionally, while standing at a light, the car shuts itself off. Thankfully, you can turn it on again without a problem. The Error Codes now are 1684, 0340 and 0551. Can you please explain what these codes mean, and what I should do?? Thanks very much for your help!!
Best Regards,
Sandra

ANSWER: P0340-NO CAM SIGNAL AT PCM
P0551-POWER STEERING SWITCH FAILURE
1684 is just batery disconnected.

NEW CAM SENSOR
AND POWER STEERING SWITCH.

QUESTION: Thanks, Kevin. Is it possible to replace the CAM sensor by myself, or does this need to be done at the shop? Same question concerning the power steering switch .... This morning, the car was sputtering while driving - I noticed the RPM needle drop, then go back to what it was. Then the engine warning light chime went on once. During these few seconds, the car sputtered slowly, as if it wasn't getting any fuel. Are these "serious" problems, which should have me thinking of getting rid of the car?? Thanks, in advance, for your help! It's greatly appreciated!

Answer
u should be able to replace it i dont know what tools u have.
The Power steering switch is on the rack and pinion under the car.  The cam sensor will cause the spit and shuddering.I live in the Atlanta area if u would like I can look at this for you.
