Chrysler Repair: 1999 Chrysler T&C limited Body computer Problem, chrysler town and country, switch one

Question
I have a 1999 chrysler town and country limited with about 60,000 miles on it. A few month ago the mini van died while driving and all the electronics shut off. The car restarted an hour later and everything was fine but the check engine came on. Putting a scanner to it read "input output malfunction". I cleared the code and the car seemed fine. However, now from time to time the car will not start and when this happens the cluster is dead with no lights coming at all. The fuel pump goes on but starter does not turn. Ignition switch has already been replaced but did not help. I am now considering changing the Body Computer, i picked one up from the junk yard. Can you tell me if this might help with the problem. Also, can I just switch one for the other or will i need to have the dealer reprogram the new body computer. Thanx

Answer
Hi Alex,
It would be important to be sure whether the two vans (yours and the one from which you took the BCM) both either do or do not have a vehicle security theft system because the BCM is different between those two features, and one will not mate with the other successfully. I checked the list of codes and couldn't find a "input output malfunction" listing. Do you have the 4-digit P code? I would suggest ask Kevin whether there would be a reprograming need due to the substitution.
