Chrysler Repair: 92 runs rough, appears to be too rich, rich mixture, power controller

Question
QUESTION: i have a 1992 lebaron convertable, the engine light came on,it started running ruff, after looking it over i notised gas dripping out of the exhaust manifold while it idles, whats wrong with my baby?

ANSWER: Hi Stewart,
There is a too rich mixture, but for what reason is unknown. Try to get the fault code that might be stored in the computer. Use the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light to begin to flash-pause-flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Repeat to assure accuracy. The last two sets of flashes is always 5 each. Then write me back with the numbers or go to www.Allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a translation. Tell me which engine is in the car.

QUESTION: my scan tool said that it was no. 1 injector circut ?

Answer
Hi Stewart,
You didn't tell me which engine you have, but the code means that either an injector is stuck open, or the driver wire for the injector is shorted to ground (grounding the wire is how the injector is pulsed open monentarily by the power controller). I would be suspicious that it is #1 injector, so you might want to pull the plugs and find the one that is wet. Then check the non-dark green/red wire at the injector for that cylinder (because the dark green/red has 12V on if the engine is running, but you want to test the other wire to see if it is grounded all time which it should not be). It it isn't grounded then I would suspect the injector has failed 'open'.
