Chrysler Repair: 1998 Cherokee Laredo High Beams, cherokee laredo, highbeams

Question
The high beams won't go off at all. My model does not have automatic headlights. When the vehicle is running the highbeams are on even when the regular lights are off and when the regular lights are on the high beams are still on and I can't turn them off. When I turn off the vehicle the high beams still remain on even when they key is out. I have to disconnect the battery everytime I park. Help me!

Answer
Hi Jeff,
You may not have noticed that I make no claims to expertise about Jeeps, nor do I have any manuals that would have wiring diagrams. Only guessing then but I suspect there is a high beam relay (a switch for the high current-drawing  headlights that is operated remotely by a low curent circuit), perhaps under the hood in a power distribution box containing fuses and relays, that is stuck in the activated position, i.e, the electrical switch is permanently closed possibly due to contacts inside being fused together. So see if you can find such a power box and if none then check under the dash to see is such a relay is part of the distribution center there. That is the only part that I would know of that would behave this way. Relays are small black cubes that plug in to a circuit board. There should be a label nearby or a drawing on the box lid.
