Question
QUESTION: Per an earlier question, can you please advise on the step by step procedure for replacing a '99 300 Starter ?

Thank you,
Best Regards,
Lisa

ANSWER: Hi Lisa,
There are three possible engines which are somewhat different challenges. Please tell me which size (2.7,3.2,3.5L) you have and I'll give you the step by step procedure. Do a 'follow-up' question.

QUESTION: Hi Roland,
Wow thanks for the quick response .. it's a 3.5L

Regards,
Lisa

Answer
This applies to both the 3.2 and 3.5L engines:
Disconnect battery negative remote cable from remote ground post near right side strut tower, cover with plastic to insulate it from touching metal.
Raise vehicle
Remove one nut to catalytic support bracket
Remove two nuts to catalytic support bracket mounting.
Remove two nuts and one bolt attaching starter to engine
Remove battery positive feed wire from starter
Remove starter solenoid assembly from transmission housing. Position starter to gain access to the posi-lock wiring connector.
Position jack stand beneath engine (or floor jack with wooden board under oil pan, as alternative) and slightly lift to relieve pressure from left engine mount.
Remove left three engine mount mounting bolts from engine block
Jack up engine slightly to give more room to maneuver starter assembly
Slide rear of starter out between catalytic converter and engine mount.
Disconnect posi-lock starter solenoid connector
Remove starter from vehicle.
Installation is the reverse:
Clean corrosion and dirt from the cable and wire terminals before reconnecting wiring to the solenoid. Reconnect the posi-lock connector right after starter is placed into position.
