Chrysler Repair: Replacing 1996 Chrysler Sebring lxi transmission, chrysler sebring lxi, 1996 chrysler sebring lxi

Question
Hi, I have a 1996 chrysler sebring lxi and i was wondering how hard it is to replace the transmission its a 2.5 At with o/d thank you

Answer
Hi Ryan,
I have the '98 shop manual that shows the removal is a 31-step process involving a number of part loosenings and removals, an engine support bracket and a floor jack. Installation is the reverse process. It is involved but tractable if you have a good set of tools and the instructions set. I would not turn it over to a shop that didn't have the manual and experience. So if you have done this sort of thing before and can rent the support bracket that mounts on the upper sides of the engine compartment you could give it a try. Are you certain that you have to remove and rebuild it? What fault codes have you read out?
I can xerox and postal mail you the pages so you can see what is involved. Just use the "thank and rate" tab where you will find a space to enter text and can thus give me a postal mailing address. I assume that the Sebring you have is the convertible body.
