Chrysler Repair: No Spark: 94 V-6 in LH car, crank sensor, chrysler new yorker

Question
I have a 94 Chrysler New Yorker - it was running fine and then quit. I have fuel and compression but no spark. Do you have any ideas on this? I have tried changing relays around but to no success.
Thanks, John

Answer
Hi John,
I suspect either the cam or the crank sensor is bad. Use your ignition key to query the engine controller for whether it has noticed a failure and thus set a fault code in its memory:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds elapsed time or less. Then watch the check engine light which remains "on" to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure of accurate counts. The last two sets of flashes will be 5 in each. Then group the counts in pairs in the order of appearance to form two-digit fault codes. The last such number is of course 55, which is the code for "end of readout". It the other code is 11 that means the crank sensor is bad, if it is 54 that means the cam sensor is bad. If you get other numbers let me know what they are or go to www.allpar.com/fix.codes.html for a list of code meanings.
I think this will get you going. If you write back tell me if you have the 3.3 or the 3.5L engine.
