Chrysler Repair: Water in the Blower Housing after heavy rain, intake plenum, external firewall

Question
What would cause water to collect in the blower housing of a '99 Sebring convertible?  It seems like it only collects there during a serious rain storm (we just had a tropical storm pass through a couple of weeks ago), but when I pour water on the car, it seems to drain all right.  I was thinking that it might be a clogged drain for the AC condensation, but I don't understand why it only seems to show up after a rain.

Answer
Hi Jeff,
If it is water and doesn't have a smell of antifreeze (which would indicate a leak in the heater core) then I wonder if it might indeed be the AC condensation pan is not draining. When you run the AC in high humiditiy conditions, for example on defrost, there will be much more water condensed from the incoming air on the coils and thus more drip-down later. Check the drain tube that is on the external firewall at near floor level and approximately midline of the body underneath to see if it might be clogged. Push a fine wire up the lumen of the tube to make sure it is clear. Another possibility is that there is a windshield leak that depends upon the car being in motion,  or possibly that the drain for the air intake plenum is blocked which you should be able to check by opening the hood and testing it by pouring some water in to see how well it drains away.
