Chrysler Repair: 96 Concorde No Cruise Control, concorde lx, fuse panel

Question
QUESTION: 96 Concorde LX 3.3Liter, 80k miles, Good vacuum to all cruise components. Recently tuned up and car runs great. Have had problem I have seen asked before with instrument cluster going unresponsive along with ATC going to heat only with no control and airbag light lit all at same time. Beeping horn made all instruments responsive. All fuses good and new cruise fuse panel relay. Suggestions to investigate cruise not working?  Air bag clocksping? Cruise control switches?

ANSWER: Yes the clockspring is a necessary function as are the switches. I suspect the clockspring first. If you would like a copy of the wiring diagrams let me know a postal mailing address and I will xerox and mail them to you. That is probably the best way I can help you from a distance. Use the "thank and rate" tab to give me your address.

QUESTION: Roland, If it does end up being the clockspring do you feel it is worth a trip to the scrap yard to try to find one in a retired vehicle? Or are these fairly delicate and should I stick with a new one from a dealer?  $225 and special order from any local dealers.
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Jeff,
These are pretty reliable because they are a safety item under federal law. I haven't heard of the LH cars having a problem with frequent breakdown, so chances are good one from a yard would be OK. I'm going to send you the pages on how to change it and the wiring diagrams so you can verify if yours is broken or not, so do that first. Then decide if you want a new or a used one.
