Chrysler Repair: heater/AC blower only runs on high: resistor block?, flat blade, speed blower

Question
I have a 1996 Town and Country.  The blower only operates on the high setting.  I've read that it could be due to a bad resistor block.  Where would that be located on this model?

Answer
Hi Ed,
That is probably what is broken if you only get high speed blower. I don't have the '96 manual, rather the '95 and '98. On '95 the block was accessible from the engine compartment, specifically in the very upper corner of the firewall on the passenger side of the van. You will see a five-sided plug and so you remove that, and then the two screws that hold the rectangular plate which holds the resistors which are actually hidden from view, but placed in the air intake passageway so as to cool them.
On the '98 the block is similarly situated on the upper edge of the firewall on the passenger side but more centrally located, under the wiper module. You will see two openings; insert your hand through one of those and with a flat blade screwdriver push on a spring tang on the driver's side of the block, which will release it to be pulled forward and out of the rectangular opening it is placed through. It may be easier to do this if you have a new one on hand for reference. Note there is a "top" shown on the plate.
When you replace the block make sure the resistors are not touching one another; separate gently with your finger tip.
So see which location applies for your '96. I would appreciate knowing which location you find it at.
