Chrysler Repair: re: digital dash blinking, mechanical cluster, failed component

Question
Roland, I checked all the switches and did the test and still the same, the car is a LeBaron conv. 2.2 turbo (not a GTC). blinks on every 5 seconds when car is off and ignition is off. the blinking is constant every 5 sec. seems to drain the battery. its not the computer because i unplugged it and it still happens, it does stop when i pull the fuse. could it be the electronics of the cluster itself and if it is can it be changed to the mechanical one?

Answer
Hi Bill,
I suspect that you can substitute the mechanical cluster, as it needs the same wires but you will have some leftover. The plugs are different so you will need to get the plugs for the conventional cluster for proper attachement. I don't know for sure because I haven't tried it, but it does work on later model cars (thought '89) because that was before the body computer which subsequently made such a change very difficult. So other than that, or looking over the circuit board for a failed component, that would be the choices.
