Chrysler Repair: 85 plymouth reliant brake and turn lights, turn signal switch, turn signal flasher

Question
okay. The turn signals dont come on at all, the brake lights wont come on, and nor will the hazards. Checked all fuses and flasher bulb just in case. headlights and tail lights come on and have had to use those as "brake lights" during the day. have not been able to check rear bulbs do to hatch will not open. Please Assist. Tired of turning on lights at every stop sign.

Answer
Hi Robert,
Those three circuit are independent but meet up in only one place: the turn signal switch. The turn signals and its flasher are powered by fuse 10, the brake light by fuse 6, the hazard flasher by fuse 1. I doubt these are all burned out, but you might want to verify them with a test light or voltmeter to have 12V on both sides of the fuses.
The turn signal flasher feeds to and thru the turn signal switch separately from the brake/hazard circuit which feeds to and thru the turn signal switch after passing thru the hazard flasher switch (brake light in one position, hazards in the other). So if the fuses are all OK and if you have rear running lights, then I have to believe that the turnsignal switch has failed on both sides or is unplugged from its connector which is a 10-wire plug that also includes the horn ground so if the horn works that means that plug is connected(the only other possibility is that the both flashers and the hazard flasher switch are failed which seems pretty unlikely). But look around the steering column to see if you can find an unplugged 10-wire connector.
If you have a test light or a voltmeter I can xerox copy and postal mail you the circuit diagram and you can verify where the voltage is being lost. So if you want that give me a postal mailing address. Also tell me if you have a sedan or a wagon. You can respond via a comment space in the thank and rate tab of this message.
