Chrysler Repair: Fans dont work, over heating, 98 T&C, blown fuse, chrysler dealer

Question
Over heating seems to be the problem. The Fans do not turn on. Coolant is fine, no loss. Is there a simple test to do to check each component? Such as fan relay or anything else?

Thanks,

Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,
There is a good chance that the problem is your "solid
state" fan relay. In fact you might be able to get it replaced free at a Chrysler dealer because of a higher than normal failure rate these relays were recalled on some of the later half of the '90's vans. In any case, you will find the relay on the inside surface of the left front frame rail, just behind the lower left corner of the radiator. It is supplied with power by fuse 24 in the power distribution center under the hood on a gray wire to pin 4. It is controlled by a coil supply voltage on the light green/dark blue wire from the powertrain controller on pin 2. The fans then get their power supply out of the relay on the dark green wire from pin 3 of the relay when its points close, and the relay coil is grounded by the black wire on pin 1. So between a blown fuse, the dealer replacement for free, the fans themselves which you could test by jumping to the dark green wire from the +post of the battery, and a wiring issue with any of the other wires, you should be able to get your fans going again. I would take measures in the order listed.
