Chrysler Repair: Ignition feed fuse blowing, 95 Van, dodge grand caravan, amp fuses

Question
I am working on a 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan. The ignition feed fuse keeps blowing on me as I turn to on. Can you tell me where to start tracing? And does the wiring go through the clock spring?
Thank you

Answer
Hi J,
I wish you had given me the number of the "ignition feed" fuse that blows and whether it is in the power distribution center under the hood or under the dash. There are two power distribution center fuses that feed the ignition switch that are each 40 amp that are feeding pins 56 and 57. The first one then feeds fuse 19 and 20 and 26 which feed headlamp, heated rear window, and AC; the second one feeds 13,14,15,16, and 5,6,7, and the power window circuit breaker. (Those 7 fuses do a lot of different things, too many to list). If one of the two 40 amp fuses is blowing then remove the underdash fuses one at a time that are supplied by that fuse, while you measure the resistance with a digital voltmeter to ground from that pin (56 or 57 as the case may be) for the fuse that is feeding the ignition switch while the switch is in the run position until you find the fuse which when removed causes the resistance to go above 1 ohm. Then concentrate on the items supplied by that fuse to find the shorting item.
Fuse 14 is the one that carries current to the clockspring for speed control function, and fuse 13 is involved with the air bag (and thus the clockspring) as well as the rear washer wiper. So those are the fuses that might bear looking into to see how much resistance they show on their downstream pins.
Let me know which fuse (by number and location) is blowing if I have missed the mark.
