Chrysler Repair: Car keeps stoping on me, exhaust gas recirculation valve, exhaust gas recirculation

Question
I have 94 Lebaron Chrysler and it keeps stoping on me when I'm driving or when i put it in park. I'm trying to see whats wrong with it. It starts right up when i turn it over though but this has been a problem for my gal.

Answer
Hi Charon,
There are two things to check:
First, take a look at the exhaust gas recirculation valve to see whether it might be sticking ajar. It is in a small pipe that is attached to the exhaust manifold near the radiator and then that runs across the front of the engine to the intake manifold/throttle body area. The valve has a round vacuum operated solenoid on the top, a saddle-shaped shroud that conceals a rod within it that is then attached to the body of the valve. The rod has a slot that you can use to move the rod back and forth by inserting the tip of a screwdriver. See if the rod moves freely and closes all the way by means of the spring action If it seems to be sticky in its action then spray the rod where it enters the valve body with WD-40 to free up its action. If that valve rod (stem of the valve) sticks ajar, then the engine will die at idle or when you take your foot off the gas when slowing down at a low speed.
Second, do a readout of the fault codes that might be stored in the engine controller's memory. Use the ignition key: "on-off-on-off-on and leave it on" doing that in an elapsed time of 5 seconds or less. The check engine light will remain 'on' but then begin to flash, pause, flash, etc.
Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to assure the accuracy of your counts. Then group the numbers in pairs in the order that they readout to form the 2-digit fault codes. You can go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html
for a code translator. The last code that appears is always 55, which means end of readout. For instructions on how to repair the problem revealed by the code, write me back.
