Chrysler Repair: thermostat housing/changing: 2.5L V-6, air intake hose, chrysler seabring

Question
Where is the thermostat located in a 2004 Chrysler seabring, V6, four door.

Answer
Hi Sara,
I assume that you have the 2.5L size V-6, if not tell me which you have. For that one:
The thermostat is located in a housing at the rear of the engine, underneath the air intake hose that goes to the throttle body. You may want to remove that large air intake hose for better access. You would begin the process by draining off some coolant (about a couple of quarts) from the radiator to bring the level down to below the housing level, then replace it when done. (To open the drain cock, use a 19 mm socket on a 3" long 3/8" extension with univeral joint. If you don't have these tools the coolant could be allowed to drain from manifold when you open it but it will be contaminated and difficult to collect for reuse but use a large pan for collection).
To get to the thermostat you just have to remove 3 bolts that hold the water intake manifold located where the upper radiator hose enters the engine. Inside that manifold is where the thermostat is found. Clean the surfaces where the manifold mates to the housing and use a new gasket. Mount the thermostat with the vent hole up, and tighten the bolts to 11 foot-pounds torque. Then refill the system and the overflow bottle to the indicated mark with 50/50 mixture of coolant.
