Chrysler Repair: Instruments not reading:94 Chrysler Concorde, chrysler concorde, gas gauge

Question
The speedometer, rpm gauge , the gas gauge and temp gauge all quit working at the same time. All the lights still work though. We check all the fuses and they are all good. What else could we check or what is wrong and how do i fix it?

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
All the instruments you mentioned get their signals on a digital bus wire-pair from the body control module. But first I would suggest that you recheck fuses 10 and 17 under the dash; to verify both are working try borrowing the same size fuses from elsewhere and plugging those in place of the present fuses. If that proves to be ok then:
There is a way to test the digital bus system but it requires the use of a diagnostic readout box (DRB II) which is made for the Chrysler system. If you have a dealer nearby or a shop that has that specific reader you could get a readout of what is the fault if any with the digital bus system. So try calling around to see if the dealer of a shop has a DRB II code reader and ask how much it would cost to do a readout (via the diagnostic link plug that is under the dash) for faults in the digital data bus system. If you could get a readout of a fault, then I have the manual that tells how to approach repair.
It could be that the cluster has failed, in which case the only reasonable thing to do is look for a used one from a similar year model Concorde at a pull-it-yourself wrecking yard and I can tell you the steps to removing the cluster. I also have a DRB II and if you were in No. Calif. I could read it out.
So let me know if the fuses improve anything or not and what you learn from inquiring about a readout.
