Chrysler Repair: Turn signals/hazard flashers: 2000 300M, amp fuse, mechanic check

Question
Signals stop working, no emergency flashers, changed the signal arm, changed the flasher, checked the fuse in door of driver's side, still not working. Had a mechanic check wires to be sure power was there all wires checked out. What is wrong with this car? Also my engine light is on went off when I got a new battery for one day, then cam back on, vehicle runs great. But I need my signals......

Answer
Hi Anita,
I am a bit limited by having only the '98 wiring diagrams but I believe they would apply.
The power for that system is supplied from a box in the engine compartment. There should be a 20 amp fuse in a power distribution center box in the engine compartment adjacent to the battery. It may be fuse number 10, but in any case it should be labelled HAZARD. I would look closely at the fuse which may have a cracked wire, and even try exchanging another 20 amp fuse temporarily to see if that restores the function. And I would still take a look at the fuse under the dash and try exchaning it as well just to be sure, it the #10 fuse in the engine compartment box is not the answer.
If none of those fix it, I would look at the black grounding wire from pin 8 of the turn signal/hazard switch on the steering column to make sure it is connected to a grounding block on the structural support under the dash approximately centered on the dash, where it is found at pin 13 of that 14 pin grounding block. The switch's function depends upon there being such a ground connection.
On the engine light I would suggest getting a readout of the memory of the engine controller via a plug under the dash near the steering wheel. If you have an Autozone store nearby they will often do that for free. Or look for a shop with a "special" offer to do the readout for $40 or less. Get the code numbers, what they say they mean, what they say needs to be repaired, and the estimated cost. Then write back and we'll compare notes with the manual.
