Chrysler Repair: Engine stumbles at idle and on highway: 3.2L V-6, exhaust gas recirculation valve, exhaust gas recirculation

Question
yes hi i have a 1999 dodge intrepid with the 3.2 liter my problem all started when i notice that my engine would like buck for a split second going down the highway and lately i been having problems with no warning ,car will stall ether sitting at a redlight or driving down the high way. just the other day it stalled and sometimes you can start it right back up other times it takes a long crank time.

Answer
Hi Steven,
My suspicion is that the mixture of fuel/air is getting out of whack, perhaps due a faulty exhaust gas recirculation valve. But to check it out requires a fairly significant dismantling (intake plenum and fuel rail). So I would first try to get a readout of the memory of the powertrain control computer for any fault it may have noted and stored as coded numbers. I am informed that Autozone parts stores will do that for free, or a shop will be able to do it for around $40, or more at a dealer. Then use those fault items as clues as to where to look. Let me know if you want to try and check the valve yourself and I can xerox and postal mail you the pages if you will reimbuse me for the copying cost (10 cents per side) and postage.
