Chrysler Repair: Cruise, horn, airbag malfunction, flexible coupling, steering wheel

Question
I have 97 voyager and the cruise control and horn has stopped working also the air bag light is on

Answer
Hi Gareth,
I would focus on the clockspring module at the steering column/steering wheel interface because the systems that failed all relate to the steering wheel and that flexible coupling is suspect for failure due to fatigue. It may just be the connectors have separated, but also the spring could have fatigued.
You need to remove the steering wheel to get at it. Begin by disconnecting the battery for at least 2 minutes. Position the wheels straight ahead. Remove the 3 screws on the backside of the steering wheel to release the airbag module, disconnect the module. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column (remove nut, then you may need a puller to get it off the shaft), then you will be able to inspect the connections. If those seem ok, then I would suspect the clockspring unit itself has several fatigued wires inside it.
