Answer
Hi Kevin,
I would accept the code as valid. It could be due to a defective  LR solenoid in the solenoid pack, or it could be due to a poor connection beteen pin 20 of the trans controller and pin 7 of the 8-pin plug on the transmission, or a defect in the controller itself. But a comptent shop should be able to check which of these possibilities is the correct cause. So if you believe the shop is competent to make the tests to figure out which of these is the cause and to affect the repair, then I would go ahead with it. It is much less costly than a code that would cause the trans to be removed and repaired. So you may be lucky if this is the only reason for the limp-in mode. But I would mention to them the possibilities other than the solenoid itself having failed, so that they don't overlook the other wiring/controller possibilities. I assume that by "no guarantee" that they aren't saying that they won't stand behind the parts/repairs that they do. But rather that they can't make a guarantee that some other part of the trans may fail later. They should do the necessary repair on the LR solenoid circuit and show you by a new readout that the 41 code and limp-in are no longer present. If they won't agree to that, then I would try another shop that will stand behind the specific job that they agree to do.
