Chrysler Repair: How to clean throttle body, air intake hose, haynes manual

Question
I checked out my egr valve today and the areas around it. My egr looks real oily and I was wondering what is the best way to clean that off. Also, exactly where do I clean my throttle body at and how. On the idle air control motor, where is it located bc I probably moved it when I did a tune up. I probably need to make sure it is hooked up and clean it too.

Answer
Hi Colt,
May I suggest that you buy a Haynes manual for the car? The description of these items there is generally good enough that you will be able to locate them and do whatever maintenance is necessary. I really can't discuss in detail each of these parts for lack of time and energy.
But let me say a few things. The important part of the egr is the valve stem, does it open easily against the spring action, and does the spring action bring it all the way to the closed position? You can feel that with the tip of the screwdriver in the slot. Lubricate with WD-40 if necessary. Other wise the oil on the outside is immaterial.
The throttle body contains a disc on a shaft which is moved by the throttle cable. Take off the air intake hose, get a q-tip and some solvent and clean both sides of the throttle disc (plate) and the throat in which it is mounted. Just open the throttle valve with the cable lever to get to the hidden back side of the plate. The idle speed motor is right there installed as part of the throttle valve, it is really just an electrically positioned rod with a rubber tip that opens and closes the small side air passage that you will see to the side of the throttle throat before the disc valve proper. Clean the side throat with a q-tip and solvent. I would delay removing the moveable rod until you try the engine to see if it idles right after cleaning the other parts first. Chances are they will do the trick without removing the idle control "motor". You can't have hurt because it is installed in the throttle body and is hidden from view.
You would be served well if you have the manual.
