Chrysler Repair: Ticking Noise: 2.5L V-6, chrysler sebring lxi, 1998 chrysler sebring lxi

Question
Right after the oil is changed, it doesn't tick anymore until I get about 1,000 miles on the new oil. Is there any kind of additive that I can use that will maybe help the problem if I do have something dirty in the motor?

-----Question-----
I have a 1998 Chrysler Sebring LXI with 96,000 miles on it. I have always had the oil changed every 3,000 miles. In the last six months, my car has started ticking when I crank it. It is not noticable when driving, just when idiling. The tick goes away after it warms up. It is really beginning to annoy me. Any ideas as to what could be the problem?
-----Answer-----
It is probably an auto-valvelash adjuster in one for valve rocker arms that is worn or dirty such that it takes a bit longer for the pressure of the oil to build-up in it. It is not a problem so long as it goes away with warming up. Try to ignore it; it is too costly to find and replace it for just that specific issue. If the heads ever have to come off due to a gasket leak or a valve job then that is the time to deal with it.

Answer
I know there are oil additives and also there are engine internal cleaning products that you would add to the oil shortly before changing it out. I haven't had any personal experience using these so I can't give you any recommendations. Visit a trade type auto parts store and speak with the counterpersons to see if they have heard of something that works better.
You might also reduce the problem by increasing the oil grade one step, which would raise the oil pressure and possibly reduce the severity of the problem. If you now use 5W-30, then try 10W-30 so long as you aren't having to drive at below 0F for a significant period of time.
You can take off the valve covers and try pressing down on each of the rocker arms to try and find one that is spongy.
The rocker shaft can be removed and the faulty adjuster replaced. There are a couple of pages in the Haynes manual for cars that have that engine that show how to do that. But I would be sure I knew what to to do and had the tools to accomplish it. It opens the possibility for other problems if you don't do it correctly.
