Chrysler Repair: 1995 Chrysler Cirrus ECM will not communicate, chrysler cirrus, 1995 chrysler cirrus

Question
On the Snap On scanner I have it is for OBDI systems ..But the connector does not match any I have for OBDI Chrysler systems..It is a match to the OBDII systems ..So I used my Newer Scan Tool for that type of Diagnostic system
Thats also where I had my Doubts 95 under OBDI 96 Up OBDII if im correct ...I though maybe its just a mid year model
What I did was look at the exhaust and it has just a front o2 sensor..and no rear.
Is that the clue im looking for to tell me OBDI without a doubt ? .. Is that just a chrysler thing to put a newer style connector in an older style System ? First time I have ran into this

To be more specific .. I can not communicate with the ECM
There for I get a DATA LINK message saying LINK ERROR ..
So I am not able to pull a code...
Should the old method of reading codes by on-off,on-off,on
Still work on this Model ?

I checked all fuses and Relays that I could Identify.

What I would need to look at is the Wiring to and from the Link Connector and the ECM I am not sure what readings I should get with a Multi Meter.

Once again the reason I'm looking into this is the car feels as it has no power under acceleration

I do not get a check Engine light when test driving the car
The light is operable when you first turn on the ignition..It will cycle on and then of as it should.

Thanks again for any help,,

-----Question-----

I have a 1995 Cirrus that has No Power when driving So I hooked a working scan tool to the Link and all I get is LINK ERROR I did try the Scanner on another Vehicle and It does Work..Any Idea Why It would read LINK ERROR ? I did check fuses but did not go into the wiring..I do not have a schematic.. Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks for your time,

Hi Rick,
The Link Error message is a bit too non-specific for my resource list. Is there any possibility you could get a free readout at an Autozone where you might get a code number or more info? I do have the '96 wiring diagrams and can give you the connections from the wires of the plug and you could check those for continuity, assuming that is what the code means. So let me know if you want those connections and I'll type them back to you right away.

Hi Rick,
Yes the MIL (check engine light) using the ignition key
routine should work, so try that; that is what I was about to add to my first response. It may be that your reader is set up for cars with the OBD-II system and not the OBD-I which is what your '95 has.
So give that a try and tell me what you get.

PS I'll be around till 9:30 CST tonight, otherwise check me at around 7 am CST tomorrow.

Answer
Hi Rick,
I suspect it may be OBD-II because of the connector and also a Chrysler "student workshop" manual I have says that the '95 Cirrus 2.0L w/manual trans was OBD-II (but it sounds like you have the 2.5L V-6 so maybe that manual is not correct in that limitation).
In any case, I believe the MIL will readout via the ignition key regardless of which OBD, in that early year of OBD-II. So read it out and let me know. I have to give up on this activity till tomorrow morning so let me know what you got for a fault code readout via the MIL, tomorrow am if you can do it by the time frame of 7-9 am CST. Otherwise I'll be available in the afternoon.
