Chrysler Repair: Alarm or fuel shutdown after several seconds, 93 5th Ave., fuel pump relay, pin sockets

Question
My 1993 5th avenue starts runs 2 to 5 seconds. then dies.I thought it was alarm.Cleaned throttle body already.Car has fire but fuel is getting shut off by something. Help please!!

Answer
Hi Paul,
What does the alarm light on the dash indicate? Is it showing that it is still armed? If so, that may mean that the wire from the key lock to the alarm module is not connected. Try lock/unlock with the passenger door key to see if that solves the stalling out.
Otherwise, are you getting spark for a full 5 seconds of cranking? How do you know that fuel is being shut off? The ASD relay will shut down power to both the spark and the fuel, so unless the fuel pump relay is flakey you should have both. You can by-pass the fuel pump relay (located under the hood in the power distribution center, #9) by jumping from the front to the rear pin sockets of the relay socket which will turn on the fuel pump for as long as you leave it jumped (so just do this as a test, not long-term.) Have you checked for fuel pressure? Which engine do you have? Let me know the results and we'll go from there.
