Chrysler Repair: Wipers flakey/ turn signal reversed blinkers: 02 dodge van, lighting module, dodge van

Question
The wipers on my grand caravan work sporadically..... I can't find any distinguishable pattern to when they work.

At about the same time that the wipers started acting up, my blinkers reversed themselves, in the back, at least.  That is, while driving, I place the blinker handle in the "left turn" postition, and the rear right turn blinker light starts blinking.  There is no indication on the dash panel that this happens, the dash indicator for the left signal flashes.  The same anomaly happens when I place the blinker handle in the right turn p[osition.... ie, the left rear blinker light flashes.

I need some advice.  Please help.

Answer
Hi J.R.,
On the wipers, it could be a loose wire connection or a faulty activation switch on the steering column, or it might be a flakey wiper hi/lo relay located in the power distribution center under the hood. On the latter you could look for a relay with the same part number and try substituting one for the other (being aware of the system that you borrowed from might then become flakey) and see if that solves the problem for the wipers. On the switch or connection you may have to wait until it will fail predictably when you are ready to start checking it with a voltmeter and some tools to access the switch, relays and the motor itself to shake the leads and check for voltage. I can xerox and postal mail you the circuit diagram from the '98 manual if that would be of help.
On the rear light reversal, the only item that would explain that strange behavior is something called the "combined rear lighting module" which appears to be a solid state circuit that takes the signals from the turn signals, brake light switches and indirectly applies power to the bulb circuits. It may have an internal logic failure is all that I can conjecture. The manual doesn't even show where it is located but the dealer parts counterperson can look it up on their parts computer and tell you where to look for it.
That is a new on me...one of the unintended consequences of high tech, I guess.
