Chrysler Repair: 1997 Dodge Stratus 2.4L oil pressure switch, oil pressure switch, oil filter housing

Question
I'm trying to troubleshoot the problem of the oil light coming on at idle speeds when the engine is warm.  Bought an oil pressure switch to try replacing it, but its location is not listed in my Haynes manual.  Where is it, and is there any trick I should know on how to replace it?  Also, if that doesn't fix the problem, what's the best order of next things to check/try?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Gene,
I can't locate a drawing that shows the location but in my experience it is usually located very near to the oil filter housing. So look in that area. You will often find the light comes on at idle which is usually of no significance. The real concern is if it comes on at higher rpm. At idle the pressure is only required to be 4 psi and so you can check that with a gauge if you would like. The other possibility is to increase the weight of the oil you are using one step which also raises the pressure at idle. The main precaution in replacing the pressure switch is not to overtighten it. The threads are tapered and can do damage to the hole if overtightened. But after a few days recheck to make sure it is not leaking around the threads.
