Chrysler Repair: 3.0L V-6 Intake manifold, water pump replacement, water pump replacement, dodge caravan

Question
Well my sister has a 1988 dodge caravan with a 3.0L V6 with he same problem but appears to be coming further towards the front of the motor. It isn't a high pressure leak just kinda runs out in a steady stream but doesn't appear to be the hoses. I was curious if you couldn't send me a diagram showing how to replace the o-ring and how to remove and replace the intake manifold (it surely has to come off) or just a diagram showing the routing of the pipe and hoses would work too. thank you for you time JOE>>

Answer
Hi Joe,
I don't have a scanner but would be pleased to xerox copy and postal mail you the pages from the shop manual that show the manifold and the cooling system R&R procedures.
Just use the "rate the expert" tab and there you will find a comments section where you can tell me an address to which to mail these. I won't be able to get them going until Tuesday if that is ok.
Merry Christmas,
Roland
PS The o-ring on the return pipe to the water pump can be accessed by removing the 2-section pipe that is attached to the top of the trans and the rear of the the block, but you also have to remove the manifold to do that because of a by-pass pipe at the front of the main pipe which restricts the ability to pull it out the rear. If the front o-ring leaks the coolant apparently flows backwards out the rear of the engine. But if the leak were there, at least you wouldn't have to take off the timing belt. If the pump itself is leaking though you would, and that should cause leakage at the front lower surface of the engine around the timing cover. So see if you can localize the leak.  A steady leak out the front could well be the water pump itself. If you find that to be the case, then you should replace the timing belt at the same time if it has a lot of miles on it already.
