Chrysler Repair: No air from vents, 97 Concorde, blower motor resistor, hvac unit

Question
Hi, first thanks for the old question library.  I was able to replace the blower motor resistor block! They gave me the wrong one first (non-ATC) but then got the right one.

For a long, long time no air has come from the vents (hot or cold).  I remember when it first happened it sounded like it was confused, cycling back and forth like it was trying to find the vent.  Now it just doesn't go there. Any ideas?  Concorde, 1997

Another question, my speedometer goes right to 60mph when I start going and stays there, between 60 and 65.  When I stop it slowly drops to zero.  The odometer seems to be fine though.  Thoughts?

Answer
Hi Kevin,
The air distribution control is handled by the mode door in the HVAC unit under the dash. There is an electrical mode door actuator that is on the underside of the unit. The problem might be the door is sticking, or the actuator is not moving easily into that position, or the feedback electrical circuit from the actuator to the control head is not working. The easiest way to get some info to you is for me to xerox and postal mail you about 8 pages from my '94 manual that shows what the actuator looks like, how to remove it, how to do a self-diagnostic test on the unit, and the circuit diagram. So if you would like those please let me know. Just use the "rate the expert" tab where there is a comments section where you  can enter text. As I read your question it appears that you have the ATC type unit, correct?
On the speedometer, it is probably a mechanical issure with the needle/magnet part of the indicator. There is no info about repairing this lag problem in the manual, it may just need a little lubrication on the bearing.
