Chrysler Repair: Stuck hood latch, hood latch, wedge effect

I was working on my old 89 Dakota I left a screw driver laying beside the hood latch while I was working on the engine. I forgot about it and closed the hood. The hood is know stuck. How can I open the hood ?

Hi Mike,
I am not familiar with the design of the latch mechanism for that vehicle, but my thought is the only way to release the hood is to go from underneath the truck and see if you can find the latck mechanism from that point of view. Then with a helper try to release the latch (move the slider while the helper tries to push down or lift up on the hood to relieve the wedge-effect of the screwdriver). Also look for any possibility of that either the latch mechanism or the striker rod can be disconnected from the sheet metal from below. It will probably be better to have two people working on this. I hope you can get it free.
