Chrysler Repair: 01 Town and Country LX 3.3L Interior Lights, headlamp switch, body control module

Question
My interior lights in my van have stopped working. The dash board lights along with all other instrumentation lighting is out. However, the odometer and radio station lights are working but appear to be flickering very slightly. All other power equipment is running fine. One final note, I'll need to get a new battery since the car cranks a little slowly to start.
Thanks,
Ruben from Nashville

Answer
Hi Ruben,
I am limited in having just the wiring diagrams from '98 but chances are it applies to your later van. The fuse that supplies the interior lights is # 18 in the power distribution center under the hood. So check that one, both visually and electrically if you can to make sure it doesn't have a subtle crack in it. That then powers the relay for all the "courtesy lamps" that is located under the dash in the junction block that has all the other fuses and many relays. That relay is just above the bottom row of fuses on the right end of the 4 relays. If the relay clicks when you turn the headlamp switch such that it lights the interior lights you ought to hear/feel that relay click. If not, try switching it with another relay that has the same part number, if you can find one just like it else where there or under the hood. If the substituted relay fixes it, then the original relay is bad. The body control module plays a role in operating the relay too. That is a longer story which I would prefer not getting into if either the fuse or the relay is your problem. So let me know what happens after you check the fuse and the relay.
