Chrysler Repair: 1996 LHS Air condition compressor, air condition, lhs

Question
Hasn't worked in 5 yrs. no big deal, but sounds like the clutch brg went. Can I just carefully crack the lines to bleed off before I put in a new one and when I do, does it have to be charged right away or can I drive until spring before charging. I'd like to just remove the belt and drive the way it is. What do you think

Answer
Bleeding refridgerant into the atmosphere is illegal. So I don't recommend that.If you replace the compressor it should be charged right away.2 reasons 1 to keep the system lubricated 2 when you use your defrost the compressor is operating. The process removes moisture which helps your windows clear up.But you can cut the belt too if it doesn't run anything else.
