Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Neon overheating, chrysler neon, engine gasket

Question
Hello,

I've a 1997 registered Chrysler Neon 2.0 Auto, in the UK.

The car starts well and runs fine, but overheats and bubbling noise can be heard from the bonnet. The mechanic suspects Engine Gasket problem, which costs a whammy.

Could you please provide your analysis?

Thanks,
Sudhir

Answer
I could be a head gasket or a sticky thermostat or the cooling fan may not be operating. If he used a block tester which is a chemical that changes color with the presence of exhaust fumes then he could be right. If he is scratching his head and guessing then get a second opinion.A head gasket should only cost 5 hours labor
