Chrysler Repair: Blower stuck on high:2001 Chrysler Town and Country, blower motor resistor, chrysler town and country

Question
Roland,

I own a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country limited edition. I've had it for over two years now 9bouth it used) and had only minor electrical problems (not working passenger side power window, unable to activate power sliding doors with controls inside the car [remote works fine and opens doors). However these are minor and have not had the time to realy investigate the problem.

However yesterday another electrical problem occurred, The Climate control module no longer controls the fan speed. What ever direction i turn the fan speed. it only blows on high. In fact, when I turn of the climate control, another fan (closed circulation fan located above the footrest of the passenger) kick is at full speed.
I've disconnected the power to the fan (behind the glove compartment) and now I have no more either heating or cooling.
I'm reading about the blower motor resistor, would this potentially be the problem?

Please help. before my feet are getting frozen off.

Answer
Hi Wilco,
That sounds like the blower motor resistor block alright.
It is located in the engine compartment, on the firewall, passenger side, just below the wiper module (at least that is the case for the '98 for which I have the manuals.) It is retangular and the resisitors proper are on the other side of the firewall in the air intake plenum, but you remove the body of it by prying it from the back side out of the opening and into the engine compartment side. The plug has five wires, and you may have to remove the wiper module to see and get to it. First pull the plug from the module for electrical short avoidance.  It appears that you reach thru a square opening in the sheet metal to get to the back side where you insert a screwdriver blade on each end of the block and push in on a spring clip to release it; there are grooves to direct the blade into position, then pry gently outward. Then remove and replace.
You might want to get the replacement first to help visualize the retention springs that need to be pushed in.
Make sure the letters "top" is up, and check that the new resistors aren't touching oneanother or the sheetmetal. Separate them gently if necessary with a finger tip.
The plug wires go thru the firewall via a multipin connector to the climate control module.
