Chrysler Repair: Cant get a Spark, No check engine light: 96 LHS, obd ii reader, cam shaft

Question
How are you doing Mr.Roland. I have a 1996 Chrystler LHS. The promblem occured when I ran out of gas.(gas needle was'nt reading right). I tried to crank the car of couple of times. Then it started back up. I went down the road a little ways and it quit again. When it went dead, the cruise control light was the only light to come on (i dont know if that has anything to do with it). This time it would'nt start at all. I check the ASD relay, changed the coil, PCM, cam shaft sensor and, crank shaft sensor. The timing belt is still lined up correctly. I tried to do the code thing, but the check engine light will not do anything. I don't know whether somethings not grounded right or wire burnt out. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Derek,
You have thrown a lot of parts at the problem so now I think we have to think about this a bit. The lack of spark and maybe other things along with no check engine light function leads me to believe that something very fundamental is shut down, such as the digital data bus that connects together the body computer, powertrain and tranmission controllers, instrument cluster, and collision detection systems. The bias voltage for that communication is provided by the body controller and that module needs to have fuses 14 and 17 in the junction box under the dash to be working. So begin by checking those, looking at the wire carefully or even check that you have voltage on both sides of each fuse when the ignition is "on".
If those are ok and you still get no check engine light I would try to beg, borrow, or buy an OBD-II reader to plug into the 16 pin adapter that is under the dash near the steering column. That way you can get a P-code(s) (P followed by 4 digits) that might tell you what is wrong with the system. If you get a code write me back and we'll go from there. To check thru all the circuitry that might be involved in your 'no start' is a big undertaking, even with a manual, so we need to take advantage of the on-board diagnostics.
If I am "maxed out", use the "rate the expert" tab to send me a "comment" which I will get promptly and get back to you.
