Chrysler Repair: 1995 chrysler lebaron convertible, chrysler lebaron convertible, 1995 chrysler lebaron convertible

Question
Lost key and remote.  Had a key made that opens doors and trunk and will turn toward you in ignition but not away or turn the car on.  What do I do?

Answer
Hi J.
I am wondering:
Is it possible that the problem is not the key/lock interface but rather something to do with the safety interlock between the lock position and gear shifter position? You might try wiggling the gear shifter as you try to rotate the key to the run-start position. It could be that interconnection is out of adjustment and thus preventing the key from rotating away from you. I have the '94 shop manual that has a section about removing the key cylinder from the ignition switch (which would allow you to verify that the cylinder is o.k. and so too the key) and also a section on adjusting the connecting cable between the ignition switch and the gear shifter. I can xerox copy and mail these to you if you give me a postal mailing address. It cost me 8 cents a page and there might be about 10 pages involved. You could simply mail me back some stamps to cover my costs for copying and postage. Let me know if you want those pages.
