Chrysler Repair: 99 Concorde 3.2lxi, front wheel bearing, cv joints

Question
160,000 miles on my Concorde. Replaced the rt. front wheel bearing and tie rod. Still get a noticeable "clunk" when I turn the steering wheel at low speed. Cv joints are good. Could be a bearing in the transmission? Could this get worse?

Answer
Hi Arnold,
I doubt it is the transmission bearing. I checked the LH manual that includes the Concorde and came up with several possible causes of clunks associated with the steering gear since you said it is related to turning the steering wheel.
1.Gear loose on front crossmember. Check gear-to-crossmember
mounting bolts. Tighten to 50 ft-pounds
2.Cross member-to-frame bolts or studs loose. Tighten
3.Tie rod looseness (outer or inner) Check tie rod pivots.
4.Pressure hose touching other parts of the vehicle. Adjust position of hoses by loosening/adjusting/tightening fittings but don't bend tubing.
5. Noise internal to gear. Replace gear.

I hope that focussing on the steering will bring you a solution.
