Chrysler Repair: No start: is it the fuel pump or? (Fuel injected 87 engine), logic module, hall effect sensor

Question
Bought a 1987 labaron convertible with fuel system problems. Fuel pump not pumping, replaced fuel pump. Still will not pump.I can hear a relay somewhere under dash kick on for 2 or 3 seconds when key is turned to on position but the pump is not coming on. Unhooked line at filter, still no fuel.

Answer
Hi Hughie,
You may have misread the situation because the design of the system is to only allow the fuel pump to operate for a few seconds UNLESS the engine is being cranked or is running on its own power. You can check this out with a voltmeter either at the fuel pump plug (dark green/black) or at the + post of the spark coil (same color wire). So see if you get 12V for a full 5 seconds when you are cranking the engine to start it, or not. If not then there is a possibility that the hall-effect sensor in the distributor has failed because that sensor is what tells the logic module whether the engine is turning over. The most direct way to find out what is going on is to readout the logic module for fault codes:
Turn the ignition key "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" completing this within an elapased time of 5 seconds or less. Then watch the check engine light which remains on to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the procedure to verify the counts. Then combine the counts in pairs in the order they appeared, thus forming the two-digit fault code numbers. The last number will be 55 which means "end of readout". If you get a code 11 that means the hall-effect sensor is not working and you should buy a replacement for it. You can get the other code meanings at www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html
So check these out and let me know what you find.
