Chrysler Repair: 2002 Sebring fuel system repair: extended warranty?, fuel delivery system, highway traffic safety

Question
I have a 2002 4 door Chrysler Sebring V6. The engine light came on and I took the car to my local Chrysler dealer. They told me that the problem was a cracked canister tube and leakey hose on top of the fuel tank. The parts cost $27.85 and the labor cost $340.00. I asked if this was part of the Emissions System and they said no that it was part of the fuel delivery system. The part numbers that were replaced were 14089004 and 14089002. Are they correct or should I call Chrysler and complain. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Mike,
I couldn't find reference to the "canister tube", but the term "cannister" is used to describe the gas vapor collection canister which is certainly part of the emission control system. The hose in question, if it is called a "vapor hose", of which there are two on top of the tank, is also part of that system. If the Federal law requires extended warranty on emission control parts I would certainly check with the regional Chrysler service rep (ask the dealer for the name and phone) and then if you aren't satisfied you can try corporate headquarters, and after that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in Washington, D.C. or the EPA whichever has jurisdiction.
So get the verbal description on the hose at the tank based on its part number from the parts department as well as verify that the 'canister tube' is part of the 'evap cannister system', and go for it!
Please let me know if you are successful or not.
