Chrysler Repair: 98 Sebring wont run, 4 digit numbers, junk yard

Question
I have a 1998 sebring coupe. One day it would not start,I saw not spark to the plugs.I changed the rotor and cap.it would still would not run.I called the dealership, they thought it was the distributor as they fail a lot on these cars..I replaced it...it would not run.I bought a used PCM from a junk yard.I started right up and ran great for 5 weeks..and then the same thing,It would not start.I just bought another compatable pcm from a junk yard and still nothing...where should I start?

Answer
Hi Timothy,
I would wonder if the PCM has recorded any fault codes? The problem may be in getting the codes from the memory while it is stranded. '98 was the first year when it was not for certain that you could do it yourself with the ignition key.
But give this a try: "on-off-on-off-on and leave it on" doing this in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch for any messages to appear in the odometer window or watch to see if the check engine light begins to flash, pause, etc.
Count the number flashes before each pause. Repeat to be sure the counts are accurate. Group the numbers in pairs to form two-digit fault codes. Last one is always 55 meaning end of readout. Write back if you get any codes this way or via the odometer. I am uncertain whether there will be a useful code, because changing the pcm the first time seemed to affect a repair. But codes are the quickest way to find the reason without having to throw parts at the problem. There is code list at www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html
or let me know. Otherwise, you will need to plug in a code reader to a port under the dash. The codes might also be 4 digit numbers preceeded by a P if they show up in the odometer window or via a code reader.
Let me know what you find. Also, still no spark? Also, if you write back tell me which engine you have.
