Chrysler Repair: Re: 97 LHS electrical: AC, abs, air bag, windows fail together, affected systems, intermittant

Question
Hi Roland, I thought I had fixed this problem by cleaning up the contactors in the ignition switch, but unfortunately am still having the problem and it is occuring at lower outside temps, not just 90 plus. I did notice that everything works fine when I turn the key to the on position, but haven't started the car. Once the car is running is when it happens, do you think it could still be the ignition switch? I've looked at the wires and they don't show any obvious defects. This may sound like a dumb question, but I'm not completely certain what you mean when you refer to the J position in the power distribution box under the hood. Is it found by starting from the top left and going to the right A, B, C ... The reason I ask is that my car does not have any markings that I can find in or on the power distribution box or in the lid to the box. Also, I was wondering if you happen to have a wiring schematic for this car? I would love to have a copy.
Thanks for your time, Sheri

Answer
Hi Sheri,
I suspect it is still the ignition switch. Probably the current carrying contacts in the switch are pitted/weak in springiness, or corroded so they just don't establish good contact. You could try jiggling the key in all 6 directions including slightly rotating it back to off (without killing the engine) to see if that re-establishes contact for those affected systems. On the fuse, there are a double row (5 in a row) on the outboard side of the box and the J is in the frontmost position of the outboard set of 5. They read  A to E inboard and F to J outboard. The wiring diagrams are unfortunately about 170 pages which would be about $12.00 to copy at 7 cents each. I'd prefer to copy just what you need rather than do it all.
So if the key manipulation shows that to be the cause of the intermittant then you may want to just buy a new ignition switch. You have been there and seen it, so let me know if you need any further instruction as there are a few details.
