Chrysler Repair: Concord 95: 3.5L water pump leaking, chrysler concord, old harmony

Question
Hi Roland!
My Chrysler Concord/95/3,5L pump started dripping, I guess because the Harmony Balancer is vibrating noticably. Can I take the water pump out from the engine without dismount of radiator and is it possible to ajust the old Harmony Balancer or you suggest to buy a new one

Answer
Hi Vladimir,
On the 3.5L engine the problem is not the radiator removal, but rather that you have to remove the balancer and the accessory drive belts, then remove the timing belt covers, then remove the timing belt and tensioner in order to get to the water pump for removal. This is enough of a job that most people will want to replace their timing belt at the same time, particularly if the present belt is nearing 90,000 miles or so of service. It is a good time to change the belt if it will wear out soon when you already have to change the water pump. So you will want to have a service manual to do this job correctly. If you believe the balancer is worn then it should be replaced too. I don't believe that it is adjustable or repairable. If it is too expensive you might get one from a used engine at a wrecking yard. But of course you want to buy a new pump and new timing belt if needed.
So let me know if you have a service manual that describes the steps in the procedure or not. If not I can xerox copy and postal mail you pages from the Chrysler or Hanes shop manual at a cost of 7 cents per page plus postage.
