Chrysler Repair: 2005 Chrysler Town & Country door lock/window problem., daimler chrysler, power doors

Question
Hi Roland,

Would the connector that you speak of cause all of the door locks not to work? The only way that we have to lock and unlock each door is to manually lock/unlock each door. Also, the automatic door lock feature, once the van reaches 16mph, doesn't work either. We currently have 62,000 miles on the van, so the warranty has exspired.

Thanks,
Donald

Question -
I have a 2005 T&C Touring with all the extras - power doors, lift gate, DVD and CD Changer. The problem that I am having is with the right side power window (will not work) and the power door locks. Niether of the door lock buttons work (lock or un lock doors). Also so, if I use the remote the lights flash and horn sounds but thats it, no lock or unlock.

I believe that the window problem is a short in the door jam. I have been able to get it working again after moving the wiring harness around.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Donald

Hi Donald,
It does sound to me like there is a problem with the multi-wire wiring harness that connects between the dash and the interior of the passenger door. It may just be that the disconnect plug near the hinge is not seated in its socket, for example, which no doubt would disable both the power lock and the power window functions. I don't have the full wiring diagrams for that new of a van so I can't tell you where to look for that connection though it is probably near the right end of the dash. But because the vehicle is a 2005 model I would believe that it would be under factory warranty for a repair of this problem at no cost to you. So see if you can't get the dealer to fix it for free. IF not, then check with Daimler/Chrysler in Detroit or ask the dealer for the number of the regional service representative to seek satisfaction.

Answer
Hi Donald,
On the door locks, there are probably three fuses in the power distribution center under the hood and 3 fuses in the junction block fuse holder under the dash that are needed for that system to be fully operational. My inclination, without a wiring diagram, would be to check all the fuses in both locations to see if you can find any that are either blown or have a subtle crack in the internal conductive wire. If you have a voltohmmeter you can verify whether they are passing voltage, or if the fuse is not powered at that time you can check the resistance across it to test that it is functional. I wish I could be more helpful with specific fuses to focus upon but without diagrams I just can't direct you. But I believe you will find some fuse(s) to be non-functional.
