Chrysler Repair: 1994 LHS climate control gone crazy, body control module bcm, salvage yard

Question

Hi, Pete replied to the following problem, and said it was a comper reprogram. The dealer said you can't reprogram this unit. My question is where is the body control computer located and can I just replace it with a used one. Thanks Mike;  original question:My 1994 LHS auto climate control has a mind of its own. I have diconected the battery for 15 minutes to reset it but no luck. . When I try to run the A/C it may work for a minute then goes to defrost with heat.It may go back to cool on defrost and heat again and none of the buttons work and I can't change the fan speed or even turn it off. I did read a Code 12 when I cycled the ignition switch.  Thanks Mike

Answer
The ATC head does work a bit with the BCM, but pulling codes from the PCM (which is what you were doing to get the code 12) is not going to help you.

The body control module (BCM) is located in the right kick panel area (right foot of front passenger).  Some of these have been known to go bad but I strongly urge you NOT to go putting in the first one you come across.  Your car's age is right around there when they started programming vehicle options in to it and you may actually prevent other options from ever working again if you put in one from a salvage yard or something.

It sounds more like a bad control head but honestly, with ATC and cars with BCM's your better off taking them to the dealership for proper diagnosis.
