Chrysler Repair: code p0740, mechanic check, engine computer

Question
Hi Doug,
I have a 2000 cirrus 2.5L

My check engine light came on while driving around 110km/h stayed on for the rest of the day.  Didn't drive it for a few days and decided it needed a wash.  After washing car, the check engline light went off and it has been off ever since.  used my friends code reader and it came up with codes p0700 which i know there is a transmission issue, also with code p0740.  just wondering could this have been just a one off event?

Thanx

Answer
The p0740 code is a "torque convertor clutch no RPM drop at lock up"  The p0700 indicates that the engine computer has detected a fault code present in the transmission computer.

This is leading somewhere and it's probably not going to be cheap.  Your best bet is to drive the car until the light comes on again (when the light comes on, a test has run and failed, and the computer picks up on it).  DO NOT clear out the memory at this point and have a qualified transmission mechanic check the car out for a transmission problem.

DON'T drive the car if it starts acting up alot.  Your expenses will go up quite a bit if you damage the transmission and parts can't be reused.
