Chrysler Repair: Humming noise: possible transmission problem?, front wheel bearing, transmission control module

Question
i have a 95ChryslerLHS that has a humming noise, thought it was the left front wheel bearing, also feels like it has a slight miss in the engine but was checked out by someone and was told it is the transmission causeing all this, a bearing in the transmission, what do you think?

Answer
Hi Gina,
The cost of replacing an internal bearing of the transmission is so great that I would a second opinion or even a third before drawing that conclusion. But also I would suggest that you check the level of the trans fluid via the dipstick located on the left side of the transmission (driver side). If it is low add only Chrysler brand fluid. If the noise is still there then I would go to a reputable indendent trans repair shop (not a franchise type which will more often than note tell you that it needs to be rebuilt) and ask them to listen for the location of the noise and any diagnosis they might give you. Also, I would have them readout the transmission control module for the presence of any fault codes. Ask for the code number, code name, what might be the appropriate repair, and  how much it will be to fix. Then write me back with a follow-up question telling me what you have learned. By listening they should be able to differentiate between a trans problem and a torque converter problem. If the trans is making the noise, then it would be good to drop the oil pans and inspect for the presence or absense of debris in the pans. If none is there then the valve body should be disassembled and cleaned. Code issues should be investigated and corrected.
Ideally this will not mean a general removal and rebuild which can cost $2k. So take your time and be sure that the diagnosis is correct before authorizing a repair.
