Chrysler Repair: 99 300M stalls seconds after starting, 3x, then locks, chrysler 300m, shift lock

Question
I have a 99 Chrysler 300M and every once in awhile (approx 5
times in the last five years) it will stall after I turn it over. It will
run for about 30 seconds and then turn off the engine. After
repeating this 4 or five times the key will not turn over, and the
steering wheel and gear shift lock up. I referred to the owner's
manual and it said to use the key or keyless entry to unlock the
doors to disarm the security system - this does not work. If I
wait for 20 or so minutes the car starts fine and I am off until
the next time. Let me know if you have ever heard of this
problem or a solution.

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Heather,
I agree that the issue has to do with the security system, and that lock/unlock of either front door with the key or remote should clear it. I have heard of this happening in the later '90's models and then clearing after a time of waiting. I have also heard of not clearing at all which is even worse. I suspect that in the latter case there is a fault in the wires from the door locks. But I have no explanation for the 20 minute or so delay. Unfortunately none of the manuals that I have lists this behavior as a type of fault so there is no suggested reason or cure. If it becomes more frequent I would be inclined to not use the security system at all, just lock the car with the key. The system can be analyzed with a Chrysler diagnostic readout box which might give you a reason and a solution.
I know it can be very frustrating, so I lean toward avoiding it entirely. Also unfortunately the system can't be disabled, just avoided by not activating it. You might be able to remove the system by changing out the body computer.
