Chrysler Repair: Cirrus/Stratus AC/heater distribution doesnt work, 1996 chrysler cirrus, chrysler cirrus

Question
I have a 1996 Chrysler Cirrus and when I first got it (a few months ago) the a/c didn't work, then we fixed it by putting more freon in it, but now the front 4 fans don't work. Whether I have the heat, the a/c, or regular air on, nothing comes out of those four fans. The side fans and the fans at the foot-level still work. We checked the fuses and there were no problems there. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Answer
Hi Lauren,
There is only one air blower motor and one air blower, but inside the unit there are several doors that can be opened or closed to direct the air as you choose. This air control is affectuated by what is called a mode door actuator motor which is a different motor from that of the blower. It is located on the upper left end of the unit. It is possible that either the motor is bad or that the supply voltage to it is missing. I would suggest that you go under the dash from the driver' side and find the mode motor, disconnect it electrically and test whether there is a 5 volt supply coming to it on the pink/dark blue wire on its plug when the ignition is on, and if it is then the motor is probably bad and needs to be replaced.
Begin by removing the driver side underpanel silencer duct to give you some room. Look for a natural color 5-pin plug and unplug that. Then with a voltmeter test on the pink/dark blue for 5 Volts when the ignition is on between the pin and any shiney metal surface that is attached to the body. If you get the voltage, then remove and replace the motor/actuator. There are several screws and once removed you pull down on the acturator. Notice that the actuator is "keyed" to a lever on the internal door and make sure that when you replace the motor it keys to that lever properly in the same position. Then reverse the step to finish the installation.
I have some pages from the manual I can xerox and postal mail to you if you would like to help with this. Just give me a postal mail address.
