Chrysler Repair: Town & Country wiper lights blink, haynes manual, lighting issue

Question
Roland,

My 96 T&C has an unusual problem.  After several false engine lights (no codes?), both the intermittent and continuos wiper buttons blink for about 20 minutes. Also, AC, DEF,and others do not light up for same time.  Tried removing the battery terminals and had mechanic look for error codes.  Neither worked.  Suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Meir,
I've looked at the wiring diagrams for the van in the Haynes manual (which are not complete) and my suspicion is that either there is an internal circuit component that is weak in the AC control panel which I believe include the wiper buttons or that the ground wire for the panel is not solidly connected. The ground wire is black/light green in color and the ground connection point is probably under the dash near the center console. You could trace it by removing the AC control console where the plugs will have that wire and you can follow it back to place where it is grounded. It requires releasing the cup holder (tab at rear of holder). Then gently pry out the thin wide panel under the AC control and release screws that hold the bezel surrounding the radio and AC control, then release the two screw at the top of the bezel (above the radio), then release the AC control from the console by removing the screws that secure it. The plugs are on the rear. Then look for the black/light green wire.
I wonder though if the hassle involved in doing all this plus the risk of breaking something is worth it to correct the lighting issue. I would wait until something mechanical/functional occured before chasing down this one.
