Chrysler Repair: 95 LeBaron power steering: low assistance, ball joints, filler neck

Question
Start the car and turning it to the left there is no power steering if you keep pressure on the wheel. But let off on the pressure and then turn it very gentle it works OK. Is this a problem with the pump, switch or something else?

Answer
Hi Gordon,
It could be one of several things:
the tires could be under-inflated,
the fluid level in the power steering reservoir could be below normal (check the dipstick in the long filler neck at the front of the engine near the firewall),
the belt that drives the pump and many other things might be loose or glazed so that the pulley slips,
the ball joints might need lubrication,
the output pressure of the pump might be low: measure.
So I would take these items in that order to see which is the cause.
